Minecraft Education Edition Brings the Game and Huge Amounts of Resources to The Classroom

Minecraft on Xbox. Minecraft in your hair. Minecraft in schools. It's everywhere, and that is the aim of Minecraft Education Edition an adaptation of the world's most loved videogame specifically designed to be played in classrooms. It's designed to teach kids - and older - about anything from ancient history with meticulously recreated places and buildings to programming with Redstone.

These Minecraft mods will improve your home Minecraft experience.

It's an expansion on and purchase by Microsoft of the MinecraftEdu program, which has been in existence since 2011. They've even created a trailer outlining the various ways it can and has helped:

It's a fantastic idea. I would have killed millions to have something anywhere similar to videogames or as exciting as Minecraft used as a tool for learning in schools and at any age. It would be wonderful to see the PCGN style manual and policies could be taught using blocks instead of horrible words. The key, as always is to engage people in the process of learning so that they actually enjoy the process and absorb it.

The FAQ provides more details about the price. It's currently $5 per year per user, which doesn't sound like much until you think about the amount of schools, particularly American ones and how extensive the applications of this could be. While I wouldn't expect Microsoft to offer it free of charge since these students will be using it in class there will surely be many benefits.

Schools aren't the only ones who will have access museums and libraries will be able to buy copies of the material to use as they wish. There are tons of custom-made materials available now, with more in the pipeline in the event that they succeed. If things continue along this track 2 billion dollars appears like a lot of money.
